Texas School Shooting

Shocked to know “It is more dangerous to be a student, than a police officer in America in 2022” as tweeted by podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen. With this shooting on 24^th May, so far 24 students have laid their life at schools, a place of study, in 2022. Is this the status in US today?? Yes. At least 900 school students have witnessed school shootings in the last 10 years. Children are our future leaders and if this is the status they are in today and will be, imagine the impact of these shootings on their current and future life. 

Why the US government unable to take any action but to be a silent spectator? In a survey, while 59% respondents supported passing of gun control laws, 32% opposed it. Ironically US has a senate that is demographically non reflective, holding country at ransom on many such issues. US senate has been an old white men’s club, an anachronistic power centre that represents America of yesteryear. This power centre is commandeered by the white men, whose 50 Republican senators represents 43.5% of the less populated (heavily white majority) areas. The other 50 senators represent 56.5% of the population. The republican senators have not represented a majority of the population since 1996. During a recent meeting of NRA, National Rifle Association ex-president Donald Trump proposed an annoying suggestion to post a gun wielding security at each school to protect children from such shooting. The anachronistic approach to shooting incidents is connected to their strong belief in the gun laws of the constitution proposed by James Madison in 1791. This gives the right to the citizens to hold guns to counteract any tyrannical federal government. With the same mind frame US foreign policies are framed to support their arms industry.

US state department released its’ annual report 2021, to Congress on Human rights violations on minority in India. Ironically US preaches other nations on human rights, non violence etc., while their country’s school children lives are in danger due to their own laws. State department silent watchers to all these domestic violence, but their indulgence is quite strong on other developing countries affairs.
