In today’s busy world we are engaged to
- get educated
- learn new skills
- develop self
- change habits
- learn attitudes
- learn social skills
and much more. All these efforts are intended at altering our ability to adopt new learning to achieve desired results. But does that happen always??? Answer is negative and that’s due to refusal of our brain response to all these learning and practices through judgements.
Let’s look at the structure and functioning of our brain to know more. We are well aware, our brain is the control centre to our body. It consists of flesh, blood and neurons or cells along with the internal wiring of neurons. According to National Academy of Sciences USA, a human brain has a greater number of possible connections among it’s nerve cells, than the total number of atomic particles in the universe. Renowned Neurosurgeon Dr Thimmappa Hegde concludes, the prodigies and the genius brain don’t even use 4-10% of the potential and here lies a huge possibility to enhance our personality achieved through better utilization of our brain.

Our brain contains roughly 100s of billion neurons according Dr. Francis Xavier and he further identifies us through the programming present in the neurons through our knowledge, experience, learning, education, referred experiences, in built repulsions. Dr David Eagelman, neuroscientist found each neuron in our brain is capable of making 10,000 connections and is capable of managing 100,000 synapses. All the data and information are unique pattern of the quadrillion (1000 trillion) connections between neurons in our brain.
Our entire thoughts, information, data etc., are stored in our brain and they are flushed out as and when required. Anything new is to be stored in our brain cell in order to utilize later. During the decision making process, our brain is fighting it out based on the info stored in our brain cells and push out the decision to us. In order to learn any thing new we need to get the same stored in our neuron, to enable us to take favourable decision. Brain cells run on electricity, the thoughts travel through brain cells on electrical current. Recent studies have shown, the genes alone do not determine a person’s destiny. “The genes are the bricks and mortar to build a brain. The environment is an architect” say Christine Hohman. This environment is about diet, education, and lifestyle. As per Dr Francis Xavier 30% of the characteristic are contributed through genes, while 70% are through environment. Research says, our brain consumes 30% of our body metabolic energy and 20% of the oxygen. Gardner Murphy found out through extensive research, our brain to possess capabilities on learning of linguistic, Logical, Artistic, Musical, Bodily or Kinaesthetic, Interpersonal and Intra personal categories.

From the findings so far, the multiple thoughts that are processed through neural circuits shown in circles (for easy understanding). As we continue to learn or unlearn the same are added as more circles and will be taken up for process as required. Dr David Eagleman concludes our “mind” is a thought process of information exchanged between billions of pieces and parts of our brain. It is essential for us to utilize most of the brain neuron as far as possible through deliberate learning, practice etc. increasing more information circuits in our brain that act as a guiding force to evolve new personality to achieve desired success in life.
Whatever target we set in our lives we need to get them stored in our brain cell by way of learning, practice and make them as habit for implementation. It is pretty tough to implement though. As the expert say, if we continuously get involved in anything new for 21 days continuous, it becomes a habit.
